Saying Goodbye to Your Old Mattress
When you’re done with a mattress it’s tempting to try to find another use for it. Handing it down to your kids, putting it in your guest room, selling it on Trade Me, or donating it to a charity might seem like good options. But while this seems savvy, it’s not exactly the best idea. If a mattress is no longer good enough for you to use, it’s not good enough for anyone else. In particular, old mattresses are a health hazard to be passing on to others, filled with dust mites, dead skin cells and bodily moisture over the many years.
At Comfi, we are committed to sustainable practices and reducing our environmental footprint. We have partnered with All Heart NZ to implement a comprehensive solution for mattress recycling, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship. We believe this is the right thing to do as part of product stewardship.
Through the Mattress Recycling Stewardship scheme facilitated by All Heart NZ, we support their efforts to dismantle and recycle mattresses collected at their New Zealand Distribution Centre in Auckland. This partnership aims to address the environmental challenges posed by mattress disposal, with a focus on diverting waste from landfills.
Initial trials conducted by All Heart NZ have shown compelling results, with 77% of mattress components successfully recycled. This underscores our belief that mattresses, often seen as challenging waste materials, can be effectively repurposed instead of being discarded or donated when they are in fact way past their use by date.
We have all seen mattresses that have been improperly disposed of. They don’t belong on the side of the road or in the middle of a field. So when you buy a Comfi, not only will you give your old mattress the send off it deserves but once you hit the “Time to Replace” year for your Comfi, it will be sustainably disposed of thanks to our partnership with All Heart NZ.
